MORE RANDOM THOUGHTS
Is it possible, that the “rapid flood” of illegal immigrants, from The Americas to the south, may be as much caused by the pressure of unscrupulous employers always looking for ways to lower the floor of wages: as is the pressure of very poor conditions (no jobs)in their home country. Is there a grape-vine of rumor signaling to the Mexican job market that there are jobs waiting for them in the USA---just sneak across the border-
How many American workers, without a high-paying job, would be grateful for a menial task job at a somewhat lower wage ----is it possible, that if a number of American workers applied for these jobs, the amount of wage offered would automatically drop---
Strange—Is the Illegal, the preferred employee because he can be harassed, cheated in the calculation of his wages, maybe denied proper break times, no protection offered for exposure to toxic chemicals ( this example taken from Feb.15th editorial of NYTimes out-lining a new case just filed in a Los Angeles court, against 6 car- washing businesses, where these atrocities were alleged to have occurred)
Can-not 90% of all workers, those who are employed, afford to pay a dollar or two more for a car-wash or for a hamburger or what-ever ?? So that that an American worker can take one of these jobs and still take care of their families and so that those poor Mexican workers will not be lured here on false pretenses—that there is no real need for them at this time, in bulk—but individually, for special reasons of family, having special talents,
further education, there are legal avenues to pursue .It is also imperative that the US government devote considerably more time to this close neighbor to the south ---practically at war with itself, gangs and drugs---so volatile to be a real danger to States bordering Mexico ---time and money and direct management assistance to help turn around this clumsily, inefficient and, I must say, rampant corruption starting at the bottom with the cop on the beat all the way up near the top----the new president seems to be trying but the magnitude of the problem, I’m afraid is much larger than he is ---that is where our efforts should be directed – not on the futile fence at the border------if China will only lend us a little more money!!
All jokes aside, the way problems come nowadays, they cannot be tackled one by one---
Even then, who knows?? .
What kind of a country would this be , if instead of a company laying off 20% of its work-force or even planning closing shop completely—the workers voted to work 5days at 4days pay on the condition that the executives did likewise or if business was that slow –4days pay for4 days work—sharing the work and the wealth!! Oh yes and sharing the pain----- And as soon as business picked up –it would all be back to normal! A little touch of heaven on earth!
